38 companies in the state sign the new WIN Charter – including Esslingen’s ECOINN Hotel am Campus

Environment Minister Franz Untersteller: “Companies that act in a socially responsible, environmentally aware and resource-efficient way should become a hallmark of Baden-Württemberg’s economy”

Stuttgart, 21 May 2014

As part of the WIN Charter, we have of course also drawn up a target concept. You can view and download it here.

Yesterday (20 May 2014) in Fellbach, representatives of 38 companies in the state, many of them leaders in their sector when it comes to sustainability, joined Environment Minister Franz Untersteller as the first signatories of the new “WIN! Charter”, the sustainability charter of the state of Baden-Württemberg. In doing so, these companies commit themselves to a total of twelve guiding principles and goals of sustainable business, name a sustainability project in their region that they wish to support and undertake to submit a regular written report.

Hotel manager Thomas Puchan of Esslingen’s ECOINN, the hotel with the lowest CO2 emissions per overnight stay in Germany, stressed that they wanted “both to set an example and to continue consistently along the path of sustainability in an internal, continuous improvement process”; he hoped that many more would sign.
Franz Untersteller: “Social responsibility, economy and ecology are not opposites. On the contrary, I am convinced that in the medium and long term companies will only be successful if they see these aspects as a genuine opportunity and necessity.” This applies especially in a state with few raw materials such as Baden-Württemberg and in times of climate change, increasingly scarce resources and well-informed, critical consumers. “With the WIN! Charter, we are enabling small and medium-sized companies in particular to advance their commitment to sustainable business systematically and to document it externally,” Minister Untersteller continued. He hoped that many more companies would follow this positive example and also sign the charter, the minister added.

The WIN! Charter goes back to a suggestion by the initiative group of the Sustainability Business Initiative of the state of Baden-Württemberg (WIN).
